I apologise as this page is still under construction, so I have just listed a few of the standards below and will provide much more detail when time permits Engineering Standards & requirements for dangerous goods : The design is critical, and not only forms the basis of the performance of a vessel, but more critically the safety and assurance that all parties are covered in any event, for the storage and handling of dangerous chemicals. As a purchaser you need to know and make yourself familiar with the nessasary standards that are involved, or deal with a supplier that is conversant, and has these to hand at all times, and can even show you copies and explain areas in your application that are important. All to often I see applications and situations where these standards have been ignored, but with todays Health and Safety requirements combined with insurance and liablillity issues, these are risks that you can ill afford to overlook or not be acutely aware. A brief description and overview : AS 2634 . This standard unfortunately was so basic it was unusable, and BS 4994 in most cases was adopted and used to qualify a complete design. This standard is now listed as obsolete and you should make sure that a manufacturer is not unaware and still using it as the basis of their design and quotation. The new draft standard for Australia and New Zealand DR 95028 1983 has not yet been listed or adopted from what we have been able to see. In this case to ensure that a vessel is properly designed using these materials, you should ensure that British Standard BS 4994 1987 is used as it forms the basis, and is almost identical, to what will at some time be the new Australian Standard. In our opinion this is the best and safest design option. We have copies of the AS/ NZ DR 95028 1983 and can go over the differences if you wish. For straight Plastic vessels : The following codes give a complete guide to all design aspects. DVS 2205 Merkblatt ( German standard ) This standard covers all aspects of design including things such as personel loadings, wind loadings and many other detailed aspects. For this reason is much better than the following British Standard. BS EN 12573-1:2000 British Standard for design of thermoplastic tanks and vessels. For Dual laminate vessels : AS 2634 This Australian standard was used but was sadly lacking in every respect as it did not cover all the basic and critical aspects of the design and for complete design BS 4994 has been used. This standard is now listed as obsolete. British Standard 4994 Has, and is most commonly adopted and covers all aspects and areas of design as well as manufacture in detail. DR 95028 Is a new Draft standard for Australia and New Zealand This standard is almost a reprint of BS 4994 but it also has a few additions,modifications and improvements in terms of the base wall knuckle design, and an added section on the design and fitting of legs For handling and storage of chemicals : AS 3780 - 1994 For the storage and handling of corrosive substances. AS / NZS 3833 - 1998 For the storage and handling of mixed classes of dangerous goods in packages and intermediate containers. Other relevent and asociated Standards :
